It is recommended that anaesthetists use the same sequence when administering any drug:

1. Check the drug
2. Check the ampoule
3. Check the dilution
4. Check the syringe
5. Check the route of administration

It is good practice to always flush each intravenous drug with 0.9 % NaCI; this is to prevent incompatible drugs precipitating.
