Healthy patients <60 years old may require no routine investigations.

Healthy patients over 60 years old may need the following if major surgery is planned:

• Electrocardiogram (ECG)
• Full blood count (FBC)
• Renal function tests (U&E)

The type of surgery planned is a major determinant of preoperative investigations.
