Safe use of the cLMA is almost completely related to careful case selection.
The cLMA is often described as being indicated for elective anaesthesia, where there is no risk of regurgitation (and therefore aspiration) of gastric contents.
In reality the risk of regurgitation or aspiration is often difficult to quantify. It is more reasonable to state the cLMA is indicated for elective anaesthesia in patients at low risk of regurgitation.
The cLMA has been used for over 200 million anaesthetics.
