1. Insert Onto the Hard Palate

Place your non-dominant hand on the patient's occiput. Use this to maintain the correct head/neck position throughout insertion.

Gently open the patient's mouth, and then insert the bowl of the mask up onto the hard palate.

Pushing the cLMA upwards against the hard palate (away from where you wish it to end up) helps it follow the correct passage.

The aim of cLMA insertion is to get the tip of the mask to the oesophageal inlet. If this is done the airway automatically lies over the glottis.
