Question: Can I use a laryngeal mask with ketamine?
Answer: Because ketamine preserves laryngeal reflexes a laryngeal mask is difficult to insert after ketamine induction.
Coughing and laryngeal spasm are more likely.
A laryngeal mask can be used but often requires a strong opiate, e.g. fentanyl or even muscle relaxation for insertion.
For procedures under an hour using ketamine a laryngeal mask is unnecessary as the patient will adequaltely maintain their own airway.
