When to use this block

The ilioinguinal nerve block is used for inguinal hernia repair, hydrocele repair, varicocele ligation and orchidopexy.

Question: Would the ilioinguinal nerve block alone be adequate for orchidopexy (Fig 1)?

The ilioinguinal nerve block is used for inguinal hernia repair, hydrocele repair, varicocele ligation and orchidopexy.

Question: Would the ilioinguinal nerve block alone be adequate for orchidopexy (Fig 1)?

Answer: No. As a scrotal incision is made during this procedure, this skin must be infiltrated with LA to provide sufficient analgesia.
