Patients may require procedures such as dressing changes, inserting lines, catheters or drains.

There should be adequate space around the beds to do this, with screens. Procedure trolleys of adequate size should be available, and should be cleaned regularly and disinfected before and after each procedure.

A separate treatment room may be helpful for more mobile patients.

Facilities for full aseptic technique should be available, including surgical scrub, sterile gloves and gowns, hats and masks.
