The most important monitor is a good nurse.
A pulse oximeter, sphygmomanometer and stethoscope must be available.
ECG monitoring and automatic blood pressure (with correct sized cuffs) are helpful.
Thermometers and urimeters should be available. If possible, the unit should have a glucometer and capnograph.
Some units may have continuous arterial BP and CVP monitoring, arterial blood gases, haemoglobin, and microscopy.
Portable monitors for transfers are useful.
Haematology, blood bank, biochemistry, microbiology and radiology should be available in the hospital.
