Hygiene

Everyone, including staff and visitors, should wash their hands on entering the unit.

White coats should be removed as they may be a source of cross-infection.

Apron and gloves should be worn for contact with patients. Hands must be washed before and after patient contact.

All staff should feel able to remind others.

If possible, isolate and barrier nurse patients with infectious diseases, diarrhoea or resistant organisms.

Patients should be washed daily. If done by the family, this should be supervised by nursing staff.

Bed spaces and all equipment must be cleaned between patients.
